London, United Kingdom
Since 2003 I have been providing specialist advice on all aspects of French property and inheritance law to English-speaking individuals as well as property-holding companies. Being a bilingual Solicitor with postgraduate level qualifications in both French and English law, I am ideally placed to liaise between my clients and French legal, tax and property professionals to achieve successful outcomes in an efficient and focused manner.
I really enjoy combining my passion for France and the French language with helping my clients to sort out their French legal affairs. I get a lot of satisfaction from a job well done and from sharing my clients’ happiness at becoming owners of a home in France (not to mention a little bit envious!)
I regularly advise and assist clients with their French property purchases and sales, including providing in depth advice on French and EU inheritance law and tax and also on French Capital Gains Tax. For those clients who find themselves in less fortunate circumstances, I can assist them with transferring French property from joint names into one name (on a divorce, for example), as well as with administering a French estate when a loved one has died.
In all such cases I liaise with French Notaires and estate agents to arrange for the necessary paperwork to be drawn up. I aim to provide my clients with peace of mind and reassurance that their matter is being handled with expertise and sensitivity – my clients’ best interests are central to my work.
Having studied, worked and lived in France (Paris, Strasbourg and Beziers) for over three years, I understand what it is like to be an expatriate in France. In particular, I have first hand experience of dealing with French tax and social security offices, as well as of regularly sampling the delights of the many wonderful boulangeries, cafés and restaurants. As well as working as a legal translator for a large international law firm, I have also worked in a Parisian estate agency so have experienced French property transactions from a negotiator’s point of view too.
In my work I strive to be professional yet approachable and to build a rapport with my clients that will result in both a successful outcome and a long-lasting client relationship.
