Ruth started her career as a criminal lawyer and qualified as a solicitor in 2004. For many years she worked as a duty solicitor and represented clients in the magistrates' court and police station on a daily basis. She also prepared cases for trial with a particular emphasis on Youth Court work.
In 2009 she joined the children's team at the Howard League for Penal Reform. At the Howard League Ruth used a combination of prison law and public law to challenge the treatment and conditions of children in custody.
Latterly she developed a particular interest in cases involving the unlawful restraint of children in custody.
At Scott- Moncrieff & Associates Ruth advises clients on a wide range of issues including parole, resettlement (ensuring local authorities fulfil their duties under the Children Act) and adjudications. She also advises clients in relation to appealing their sentence.
